Ella Hoekman
Ella Hoekman, 92, died Monday, October 9, at Valley Manor in Rock Valley. Services were at 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. C. Eric Fennema officiating. Burial was at 3 p.m. Friday at the New Holland Cemetery in New Holland, South Dakota.

Mrs. Hoekman was born June 19, 1908, in Sioux Center, the daughter of Sipke and Johanna (Weijer) Dorhout. She attended country school in the Sioux Center area. She married Henry Feenstra on August 25, 1927, in Lebanon.

The couple farmed south of Rock Valley before moving eventually to New Holland. He died October 29, 1947. She married John Hoekman on March 20, 1959, in Corsica, South Dakota, where they lived until his death in August 1965. She moved to Rock Valley in 1970 and enjoyed working with the Foster Grandparent Program for 20 years.

She moved to Valley Manor on February 1, 1999. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and the Martha Circle.

Survivors include a son, Alvin Feenstra and his wife Margaret of Stickney, South Dakota; daughter-in-law, Gail Lazarwisc and husband Al of Bozeman, Montana; two daughters and their husbands, Rosella and Robert Huizenga of Prinsburg, Minnesota, and Esther and Virgil Baker of Rock Valley; a stepson, Eugene Hoekman and wife Verna of Sioux Falls; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Gertrude Van Zanten , Peter and Johanna Dorhout, George and Tillie Dorhout and Dick and Lucille Dorhout, all of Rock Valley; Martha and Henry Goslinga of Orange City; Clarence and Albertha Dorhout of West Palm Beach, Florida; Johanna Vander Ley and Juliana Vander Ley, both of New Holland. She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; a son, Edward in 1976; a brother, Sam Dorhout; a sister, Mrs. Fred Van Kley; and a great-grandson.
