Services for Gerrit Hoekstra held Tuesday
Funeral services were held for Gerrit Hoekstra, on Tuesday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m. at the Porter- Funeral homeland at 1:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed church of Rock Valley with Rev John Byker officiating. Pallbearers were Tim Kooima, John Hoekstra, James Dirksen, Charles Ver Steeg, Clarence Ver Steeg and Gary Kooima. Music was furnished by Art Kooima, soloist, and Ruth Grevehgoed, organist. Interment, was at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley.

Gerrit Hoekstra was born in Oudkerk, Friesland on Nov. 29, 1874. At,the age of 16 years he came to America -with his parents, brothers • and sisters and settled in Sioux County. In 1900 he married Alice Van Otterloo, and, moved to a farm north of Rock Valley. In 1911 they moved to Hancock, Minn, where they farmed for 15 years. They then moved to Sioux county
near Hudson, S. D They retired from farming in 1942 and have resided m Rock Valley until their death

Mr Hoekstra died at his home on April 6. He attained the age of: 88--years, four months and seven days He was proceeded in death by his wife, Alice, in 1952, and a son Charles in 1955 He is survived by seven children; Mrs (Lena) Harry Pieksma.-Bellflower, Cal, Mrs (Jessie) John Boer, .Alton; Mrs (Fanny) Albert Ekima, Red lands, Calif; Mrs (Sue) Sam Kooima, Hull; Tony Hoekstra, of Grahville,' Mich , John Hoekstra, Grand, Rapids Mich ; Mrs, (Ann) John Dirksen, Rock Valley; and three sisters, Mrs. Fannie Kooima and Mrs Henry Ykema of Rock Valley, and Mrs. Herman Van Otterloo of Hancock, Minn. There are also 29 grandchildren
and 40 great grandchildjren
