GEORGE E. WELLS DIES AT ELDORA

George E. Wells of Eldora, former prominent and esteemed merchant at Chatsworth for 30 years, passed away Friday, November 30. Funeral services were held at Dumont, Iowa, and burial was there.

George E. Wells was born July 18, 1861 at Winnebago, Ill. In 1893 he was married to Flora M. Sanford at New Hampton, Iowa. The family lived at Akron for a time and then came to Chatsworth where he operated a store. When he left Chatsworth he went to Rice Lake where he lived four years and then moved to Dumont. His wife died in 1941 [actually, 1942] after which he moved to Eldora and lived with his son, who operates a Ben Franklin store.

Mr. Wells was active in Masonic work. He joined the Masons at Akron in 1890. He was made a Royal Arch Mason in Hawarden in 1901; a Knight of Templar in 1902 at LeMars; a 32nd degree Mason in the Sioux City Consistory in 1909 and coronated a 33rd degree honorary in 1919 by the Supreme Council at Washington, D.C. He also bore the rank of K.C.C.H., an honor between 32nd and 33rd degrees.

Besides his son, Floyd Wells, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. M. D. Campbell of Chetek, Wis., and two grandchildren.
