A Very Sad Death
News of her death came as a severe shock as few were aware of her illness.
This community was greatly shocked Saturday morning by the sudden death of Miss Pearl Cott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cott. She had been ailing slightly for a few days but the symptoms were not considered of a serious nature. Friday morning she arose as usual but complained of a headache during the day and in the evening took a mild headache remedy to relieve it. Evidently the system was not in its usual vigorous condition and the heart action was affected. Saturday morning she said she felt better but a few minutes later she suddenly grew worse and before those about her realized her serious condition he spirit had flown. Drs. McCarty and Doolittle were called, and while her case was an unusual one they could ascribe no other cause for her death the failure of the system to carry off the poison contained in the headache remedy taken the evening before.

Pearl Mary Cott was born in Charles Mix county, SD., May 6th 1890. She has been a resident of this vicinity with her parents for the past fourteen years, during which time she won the esteem and affection of all who became acquainted with her. The funeral was held at the Methodist church on Monday afternoon, Rev. H. C. Niesen preaching the funeral sermon. The interment service was conducted by the Rebekahs, of which order she was an honored member, who recited their beautiful Liturgy in an impressive manner. There was a large attendance at the services and the floral offerings were many and beautiful. The relatives who remain to mourn her eerily departure are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cott; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Sigler, Mrs. Verna White, Mrs. Faith Bates; on brother Mr. Louis Cott all live in Hawarden and vicinity.
