PASSED AWAY MONDAY MORNING AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS
Was 77 Years of Age and Had Resided Here 30 Years. Survived by One Son and Three Daughters

Chas. M. Cott, for more than thirty years a resident of this community, died at his home in this city at 7:I5
Monday morning following a very brief illness. Mr. Cott was taken ill last Friday but as he lived alone no one knew of his illness until the following morning. Then his daughter, Mrs. John White, was notified and she went to look after him. On Sunday two of his daughters, Mrs. Harry Sigler and Mrs. Frank Bates, came down from Sioux Falls to assist in his care but he failed rapidly until death claimed him.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist church with Rev. J. W. LaGrone, the pastor, in charge. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

Charles Marion Cott was born near Burlington, Iowa, Doc. 31, 1849, so had attained the age of 77 years, 2 months and 21 days. When still a small child he moved with his parents to Lone Tree, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage with Sabina Hines on March 4, 1874. Mrs. Cott passed away May 20, 1924, just a little more than two months after they had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Cott, the eldest dying in infancy, while the youngest, Pearle, passed away May 15, 1012.

Those who survive arc Louis M. Cott of Junius, S. D., Mrs. Elsie Siglcr of Sioux Falls, Mrs. John White of Hawarden and Mrs. Frank Bates of Sioux Falls. In 1884 Mr. Cott and family moved from Lone Tree, Iowa, to Kimball, S. D., but after twelve years of pioneer life there during which time the family endured much hardship by reason of continued droughts the family moved to Hawarden in the fall of 1896 and Mr. Cott has resided continuously in this community since then. He farmed around Hawarden until about four years ago, when due to the failing health of Mrs. Cott, he sold out and moved to town in order that she might have better care.

Since the death of his wife about three years ago Mr. Cott has lived alone in his home here. About a year ago his home was greatly damaged by fire but he set to work arid reconstructed it and has continued to reside there. Besides his children and grandchildren, he is survived by a half brother and half sister, both of Lone Tree, Iowa. During his long residence in this community Mr. Cott acquired many sincere and lasting friendships. He possessed a kindly, jovial nature, was a hard worker, a splendid neighbor and was ever loyal to his friends, The sympathy of the community goes out to the members of his family in their bereavement.

Besides all the children other relatives and friends from out of town who came to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Anderson of Alcester; Mrs. Wm. Farnsworth of Alexandria, S. D.; and Mrs. May Richards of Sioux City.
