Obituary: Hawarden, IA—

Dale Ann Stickel Schwiesow, 58, of Longmont, CO formerly of Hawarden, IA died Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at her residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Linnan celebrating in Hawarden, IA. Visitation will be Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at St. Mary's Catholic Church. There will be a private family burial on Tuesday at Grace Hill Cemetery. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Longmont, CO. The family prefers memorials to be offered in lieu of flowers.

Dale was born May 18, 1953 to Lyle and Melba (Kane) Stickel in Hawarden. She graduated from West Sioux High School in 1971. Upon graduation, Dale attended community college in Sheldon, IA. Dale worked at the Sioux County Treasurer's Office in Orange City, IA and later at the elevator in Hawarden for many years. In 2007, Dale moved to Longmont, CO where she worked at Air Liquide. In her spare time, Dale enjoyed bicycle riding, participating in charity races, shopping and family vacations. Dale was active in her church serving as Director of Religious Education, Eucharistic minister and lector. Her greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren.

Dale is survived by her children, son, Gabe of Manhattan, KS and daughter, Ali (Benny) Hanika of Topeka, KS; brothers, Kelly (Jan) of Rio Verde, A Z and Rocky (Kathy) of Pacific Palisades, CA; sisters, Mary (Don) McCool of Longmont, CO, Deb (Gary) McKellips of Alcester, SD, Bridget (Mike) Miller of Norwalk, IA, Shawn Stickel (Oktay Demir) of Reading, MA, and Shannon (Grant) Flynn of Norwalk, IA; two granddaughters, Vassi and Molli Hanika; and many nieces and nephews. Dale is preceded in death by her parents.
