ORANGE CITY—-Helen Cornelia Muilenburg, 92, Orange City, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007 at Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
Services were Friday, Aug. 31, 2007 at First Reformed Church in Orange City,
with the Rev. David Ter Beest officiating. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, under the direction of Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Helen Muilenburg, daughter of Pete & Ida (Raak) Vander Wel was born June 15, 1915, in Maurice. She was raised in Maurice. She married Elmer Cornelius Muilenburg on Feb. 28, 1936, in Orange City. They farmed in the Maurice, Orange City and Hospers areas. They then settled on a farm north of Maurice and west of Orange City. They retired into Orange City in 1966. Mr. Muilenburg died Nov. 8, 1979, in Orange City.
She became one of the original residents of Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City in 1999. She transferred to Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City in March of 2006.
She was a member of First Reformed Church in Orange City, where she participated in the women's activities, including the Tulip Festival food stand and a Bible study. She enjoyed doing handwork, especially crocheting.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine and John Ekdom of Fremont, MI; three granddaughters; six greatgrandchildren; a sister, Edna and Merle Vande Brake of Orange City; and two sisters-in-law, Eunice Huitink of Orange City and Hermina
Muilenburg of Orange City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Cornelius Mullenburg; a son, Ronald Muilenburg; and two brothers and their wives, Raymond and Selma Vander Wel and Marvin and Margaret Vander Wel.
