Service: May 24, 2006, Trinity Lutheran Church, 1103 Central Avenue, Hawarden, IA 51023
HAWARDEN, IOWA- MILDRED VENARD, 86, of Hawarden, Iowa died Sunday, May 21, 2006 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden with Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Mildred Venard was born December 5, 1919 at Lebanon, Iowa, the daughter of Ed and Hilda (Schlumbohm) Degen. She graduated from the Sioux Center High School in 1937 and from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. She married Paul C. Venard September 26, 1942 at the Peace Lutheran Church rural Sioux Center. Mildred taught school at the Scott School in Union County, South Dakota. The couple lived in California for 2 years before returning to Hawarden, Iowa in 1948.
Paul died January 28, 2004. Mildred was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and had earlier taught Sunday School at the Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, watching game shows, baking, and playing cards. Mildred liked to visit with others and would often host friends for dinner.
She is survived by her son, Craig and his wife Julie of Hudson, South Dakota; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James Kent Venard and 4 grandchildren.
