Nettie Van Der Schaaf
Nettie Van Der Schaaf, 96, of Sioux Center died on Tuesday, July 31, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A memorial service was held on Friday morning, Aug. 3, in the chapel of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center, with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment was held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Nettie Van Der Schaaf was born to Isaac and Jennie(Groeneveld) Van Der Schaaf on May 24, 1911. Nettie was raised on the family farm southwest of Sioux Center, Iowa. In 1948, she moved with her mother into to their home in Sioux Center. After her mother's death, Nettie worked in the Kinsey Elementary School kitchen as a cook for several years. Nettie was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center, where she participated in Mary Circle. She also taught Sunday school and Catechism for many years. Nettie enjoyed making quilts, crocheting afghans, cooking and entertaining friends.
Nettie is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Joan and Art Brenneman of Sioux Center, sister-in-law Louise Van Der Schaaf of Sioux Center and many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Nettie was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John, Henry and Andrew V.
