WILLIAM HIBMA
Mr. William Hibma, age 92, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2007, at the Sanford Senior Care Center in Sheldon.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, December 8, at 1:00pm, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. David Ter Beest and the Rev. Phillip Somsen will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 7:00pm on Friday at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The family will be present on Saturday, from 11:30am to 12:45pm, at the church.
William was born on April 10, 1915, at Ocheyedan, the son of Sip and Hendrika (Rumkus) Hibma. He was raised in northwest Iowa.
On May 27, 1947, he married Katherine Bernice Muyskens in Orange City. They made their home in Maurice until 1949, when they moved to their farm west of Orange City. In 1974, they moved into Orange City, where they were custodians at the Orange City Christian School. Katherine passed away on January 7, 1981, in Orange City.
In 1999, "Bill" became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. In November of 2006, he transferred to Sanford Senior Care.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church and the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post in Orange City. He enjoyed singing and family activities and visits.
Survivors include his three daughters, Henrietta, and her husband, Richard Oosterhuis, of Des Moines; and Kathleen Williams and Shirley Hibma, both of Orange City; a son and his wife, Stanley and Martha Hibma, of Orange City; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew and Heather Oosterhuis, Jonathan and Heather Oosterhuis; Deborah and Robb Moore, Jason and Jessica Williams, Mike and Carla Hibma, Stacie and Vern Dykstra, Christa and Trent Baatz, and Dan and Heidi Hibma; seventeen great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Peter and Grace Hibma, of Maurice; two sisters, Anna Schaap, of Sioux Center; and Alida, and her husband, Leonard Topp, of Holland, Michigan; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Hibma, of Marne, Michigan; and Gloria Hibma, of Holland, Michigan.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, The Rev. John Edward and Gerrit Hibma; a sister, Kathryne Hibma; and a brother-in-law, John Schaap.
