Mrs. Teunis Van Essen, 83, of Canton died Sunday at a Rock Valley hospital after a brief illness.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethany Reformed Church, Canton. The
Rev. Marvin Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, Canton, under
the direction of Porter Funeral Home of Inwood, Iowa.
Mrs. Van Essen, the former Katie De Vries, was born Sept. 21,1894, in Sioux Center, Iowa.
She was married Feb. 19, 1919, in Rock Valley, Iowa.
The couple farmed in the Rock Valley area until 1966 when they retired to Canton.
Survivors include the widower; two sons, Henry Van Essen and Case Niemeyer, both of Inwood; three daughters, Mrs. Wilber (Bessie) Peters of Clover, S.C., Mrs.Gerrit (Hermina) Van Den Hul of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Robert (Opal) Henriksen of Worthing; a brother, William of San Luis 0 Binpo, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Ring (Effie) Wieners of Bellflower, Calif., and Mrs. Bill (Nellie) Van Der Wetering of Roswell; 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
