Mary Elizabeth Maynard, 80, of Hawarden died Wednesday, April 5, 1989, at the Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden. Services were Monday, April 10 at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden, with Rev. Fredrich Mellberg officiating.

Miss Maynard was born August 31, 1908, in Vermillion, SD. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1925, where she was active in the music department specializing in the cello. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school for a time in Montana. She later lived in Pasadena, CA, where she worked as a tutor. She also attended Pasadena Junior College. She became seriously ill while living in California. She had lived at the care center for several years.

Survivors include two brothers, Proctor W., of Big Rapids, MI and Archibald W., of Catonsville, MD, and a sister, Myra Lillian Maynard, of Storm Lake.
