Ada Ver Steeg, 90, Orange City, died Friday, Dec. 20, 1991 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Ada Irene was born Oct. 5, 1901 at Sioux Center, daughter of Herman and Marie Antoinette (Vander Gijp) Versteeg. In 1904 her family moved to Hull where she received her education. She also attended the University of Northern Iowa (then known as the Teachers Training College) in Cedar Falls, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1926.

In September of that year she secured her first and only teaching position in the Independent School District in Ames where she remained for 40 years. During this time she also did post-graduate work in various colleges in Iowa.

Upon retirement, she moved to Orange City where she became involved in the Trinity Reformed Church and community activities. For seven years she served as chairperson on the Sioux County Unit of the American Cancer Society. She was also a volunteer for the American Lung Association of Iowa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters. Survivors include four nieces and a nephew.

Memorial services were held Monday, Dec. 23, 1991 at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Donald De Glopper officiated. Interment was prior to the service at Hope Cemetery in Hull, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.
