Sioux Center News, August 12, 1997

Jennie deWit, 74, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Inwood, died Monday, August 4, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were at Faith Reformed Church in Rock Valley on Thursday morning. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley, Bartel Elshout officiating.

Jennie Van Ginkel was born on November 14, 1922, in Rock Valley, the daughter of Evert & Gertje (Van Donkelaar) Van Ginkel. She attended Rock Valley Christian School. She married John C. deWit on September 15, 1941, at Dakota City, Nebraska. They farmed south of Rock Rapids until March 1949 when they began farming northwest of Inwood. In 1981, they retired and moved to Country Club Estates in Sioux Falls and spent the summer months at Hiawatha Beach Resort at Walker, Minnesota. In November 1996, they moved to The Inn on Westport in Sioux Falls.

Surviving relatives include her husband, John C.; five sons and their wives, Arthur B. deWit of Sioux Falls, John & Michele deWit of Sioux Falls, August & Alma deWit of Rosemount, Minnesota, Norman & Darla deWit of Garretson, South Dakota, and Damon & Sandra deWit of Brookings, South Dakota; five daughters and their husbands Gladys & David Stubben of Dubuque, Margaret & Douglas Delker of Des Moines, Edna & Daniel Van Sweden of Sand Lake, Michigan, Ruth & Loren Groeneweg of Rock Valley and Natalie & Kevin Spitzig of Ankeny; 31 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Edward & Frederika Van Ginkel of Ontario, California; sister, Kate Hoogendoorn of Rock Valley, and a sister-in-law, Effie Van Ginkel of Rock Valley.

Mrs. deWit was preceded in death by one son, James deWit, a granddaughter, Angela Van Sweden, and six brothers and sisters.

When the deWits lived in Inwood they attended Netherlands Reformed Church in Sioux Center.
