MRS. A. J. PENNINGS.
Mrs. A. J. Pennings passed away last week Thursday at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Wiersma, at Grundy Center. Her death was due to old age. She would have been 84 years old on March 2. Mrs. Pennings was the former Ruth Slamger and was born in Friesland, the Netherlands in 1857. She came to America with heer husband in 1893 and settled in New York State. Later she lived in Grand Rapids, Mich, and came to Iowa in 1911 when she married A. J. Pennings. She lived in Orange City until 1937. After the death of her daughter, Ann Van Dyke, she moved to Grundy Center and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Wiersma. She is survived by 1 son, G. C. Van Dyke of Utica, New York, 1 daughter, Mrs. J. Wiersma of Grundy Center and 9 stepchildren, Henry Pennings, John Pennings, Mrs. H. I. Muilenberg, Wm. Pennings, Mrs. Jake Bonnecroy, all of Orange City; Mrs. W. Roseboom of Ottumwa;. Rev. Mr. B. Pennings of Rotterdam Junction, New York; Rev. Mr. M. Pennings of Blawenburg, New Jersey, and Rev. Mr. G. Pennings, a missionary in Arabia. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock at Van Etten's Funeral Home and at 1:30 in the First Ref. church of Orange City with Rev. Mr. H. Colenbrander in charge. Interment was made in the Orange City cemetery.
