GEORGE KATJE.
George Katje who formerly lived here and was employed at Westra’s sales pavilion for 6 years, but recently making his home with his sister in Chicago the past 6 months, died very suddenly. He was helping his sister in the bakery when he fell dead due to a heart attack. Mr. Katje was born in the Netherlands in 1877. At the age of 15 he came to America with his parents and settled at Patterson, N. J. In 1908 he came to Sioux Center where he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Bonnema in 1909. Ten children were born to this union, 8 still living. One son Gerrit died at the age of 12 years and one in infancy. Mrs. Katje died in 1931. Surviving him are 5 daughters and 3 sons, namely: Kate, Mrs. Gerrit Kalsbeek of Estelline, S.D., Jennie, Mrs. Ben Vonk of Sioux Center; Alice, Mrs. Frank Kalsbeek of Estelline, S. D.; Peter of Partyville, Wisc.; Jessie, Mrs. E. Lytser of Fox Lake, Wis., Mrs. Nick Dolieslager of Bellflower, Calif.; Gerrit of Estelline, S. D. and George Jr. of Bellflower, Calif. Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ben Vonk at Sioux Center and at the Second Chr. Ref. church with Revs. Keuning and R. Bronkema officiating. Interment was made in the Sioux Center cemetery. Messrs. and Mesdames Nick Dolieslager and George Katje, jr. of Bellflower, Calif, who attended the funeral of their father were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Balkema.
