Alfred James, 1½ year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Nibbelink, died at 10:30 a. m. Saturday of a brain injury suffered in a farm accident Friday noon. A group of neigh-bors were helping Mr. Nibbelink fill his silo and several teams and wagons were on the yard at the time. One of the men started to drive his team but after taking a step, the horses stopped. Then Gillis Havedink, Adrian Jacobs and Sam Oldenkamp saw what had happened and it is said that Havedink fainted. The little boy had wandered unnoticed to the opposite side of the wagon and either crawled or fell under the horse. The animal’s hoof came down on his head and then the horse stopped. The men were stunned and none could say a word for a while. Then Mr. Oldenkamp called the child’s father who was in another part of the yard and by this time Havedink had come to and he picked the boy up. The men rushed the child to the hospital but he did not seem badly hurt and he was taken home after treatment. The child slept most of the time. However about 6 p. m. his breathing became labored and was again taken to the hospital about 8:30. Dr. James Graham was summoned from Sioux City and after operating found that a piece of bone had penetrated the brain one-eighth of an inch. The little boy died Saturday morning at 10:30. He is survived by his parents and one sister, Sara Diane, who will be 3 in November. Funeral services were held Monday in the home at 1:30 p.m. and in the Second Christian Reformed church at 2 o'clock with Rev. Mr. Vander Werp officiating. [*Picture of the boy see the print].
