A Good Woman Called.
Friday, August 5, at Orange City occured the death, of Mrs. Roetman-Vander Schaaf, a few days after she had submitted to an operation for appendicitis. Kate De Graaf was born at Akley and was 66 years and .. months when she died. Early in ....... she came to Sioux county and in 1891 she was married to John Roetman at Newkirk, and made their home on a farm south west of Hospers. To this union nine children were born: Grace, Mrs. J. Verhoef at Forest City; Jennie, Mrs. D. Zwagerman near Sheldon; Gerrit, who died at the ago of 20 years in 1916; Frank near Sanborn, who recently bought the old home farm; Margie, Mrs. Fred Kreykcs of Sheldon; John of Hospers, Ben of Orange City, Edythe, Mrs. D. Kraai, of Orange City; and Kate, nurse at Denver, Colorado. Her husband, Mr. Roetman, died in 1912, aged 47 years.
In 1923, March 15, she was married to Wiebe Vander Schaaf, ...ver with 8 children. In 1936 she suffered the second loss of her husband, when Mr. Vander Schaaf passed away.
Besides the children she leaves 23 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also one sister, Mrs. G. Vander Wilt at Orange City, and two brothers, Dick and Andrew De Graaf of Alton. Funeral services were held on Monday with services in the First Reformed church in charge of Rev. J. G. Brouwer and Rev. J. Ter Louw. The last had also performed the marriage ceremony when the deceased and Mr. Vander Schaaf were married in 1923. The remains were brought to Hospers for burial and laid to rest in the cemetery west of town. Deceased for many years was president of the Ladies Aid society of the Christian Reformed church of Hospers and was known for her sympathy and kindness and leaves many friends who sincerely mourn her passing.
