Rock Valley - Bastiaan A. De Wit, 91, of Rock Valley died Tuesday at a hospital in Rock Valley after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday at the Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. The Rev. Joel Beeke will officiate. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery.

He married Marrigje Hoogendoorn, April 13, 1915, in Rock Rapids. She died Aug. 12, 1948.

Mr. de Wit worked as a blacksmith in Alvord from 1914 until 1918. He farmed until 1944, when he moved to Rock Valley.

Survivors include a son, John of Inwood; three daughters, Mrs. Peter (Nellie) Berg of Rock Rapids and Mrs. William (Margaret) Iwen and Mrs. Nick (Adriana) Van Beek, both of Rock Valley; a brother in the Netherlands; two stepsons, Merrit Hoogendoorn of Rock Valley and Gilbert Hoogendoorn of Hudsonville, Mich.; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and 40 step-grandchildren.
