Gerrit Ten Groetenhuis [Te*Grotenhuis] Passed Away.
Gerrit Ten Grotenhuis who died on Monday, May 3rd, 1937, was born Aug. 14, 1908 at Sioux Center, Iowa. He moved with his mother, brother and sister to Hull in the Spring of 1909(*?). He attended the Hull Public school graduating in 1926. The following year he attended Central College, played baseball for a season, with Charles City and farmed a year with his brother at Carmel. He was married to Rena Mulder.
He is survived by bis wife and one year old daughter, Ramona Mae, his brother, Willard and sister, Alvina (Mrs. Bernie Ver Hoef). His father died in 1908 and a brother, Andrew, died in 1910. Funeral services were held Thursday from the First Reformed church in charge of Rev. Tager assisted by Rev. Dowstra. A quartette sang two selections: "Mistakes in My Life Have Been Many" and "We Shall Sleep but Not Forever." Paul bearers were John Gorzernan, Cecil Zwiep, Sam Ver Hoef, Charles Sawyer, Walter Warntjes and John A. Wolfewinkle. He was buried in the Hope Cemetery. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He was a lover of Athletics and was always willing to convey the teams to their destination.
