SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -
Floyd D. Wanningen, 77, of Sioux Center died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Sioux Center
Community Hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in the sanctuary of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 today, with the family present 2 to 4 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
Floyd Duane Wanningen was born to Gerrit and Jacoba (Berghuis) Wanningen on Dec. 13, 1926, in Sioux Center. Floyd attended Sioux Center schools and joined the U.S. Navy in March 1944. He served on the USS Cumberland Sound during 1944-45 and on the USS Mackinac during 1945--46.
He married Dorothy Kuecker of Maurice, Iowa, on Dec.13, 1948, at the Central Reformed
Church parsonage in Sioux Center. In January 1949, the couple moved to California, where
Floyd drove truck and worked in the construction of canals with the California aqueduct
system. He received Christ as his savior in September 1954 and was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Bellflower, Calif. There, Floyd served as an elder and a deacon.
Floyd and Dorothy returned to Sioux Center in June 1972. He drove truck for Land O' Lakes
in Sheldon, Iowa, for 16 years before retiring in 1988. Later he was a driver for the Area IV Education Agency delivering audio/visual supplies. Floyd was a member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Dorothy of Sioux Center; two children, Lynn Ruse
and her family of Orange City, Iowa, and Dan Wanningen and his family of Vista, Calif.; his
twin sister and her husband, Florence and Rich Gerritson of Rock Valley, Iowa; and several
nieces and nephews. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents.
