Birth: April 9, 1981
Death: November 21, 2000
Tonya M. (nee Vanden Top) Leusink, age 19, of Sioux Center, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 21 in a traffic accident near Struble, Iowa.
A funeral service was held Saturday, November 25 at the First Christian
Reformed Church in Hull, Iowa with the Rev. Carl Klompien as the officiant. Oolman Funeral Home of Hull was in charge of arrangements. Family visitation was on Friday evening at the Oolman Funeral Home.
Tonya Marie was born April 9, 1981, in Rock Valley, the daughter of Robert Jay and Arlene Cindy(Burggraaf) Vanden Top. She was raised in Rock Valley, where she graduated from high school in 1999. She then attended St. Luke's School of Nursing in Sioux City, where she was currently in her second year. On August 4, 2000, she married Joel Marc Leusink at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. They made their home in Sioux Center and grew together in friendship and in faith. Tonya was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where
she participated in GEMS and the choir. She was raised in the New Life Assembly of God in Inwood, where she was active in children's ministries. She enjoyed singing, reading and crocheting. While in high school she enjoyed waitressing at Pizza Hut and the Towne House, and later in an Italian restaurant in Sioux City. Tonya was looking forward to graduating in May as a registered nurse, and she hoped to specialize in caring for babies. She found great pleasure in traveling with her husband, and she had many friends who loved and adored
Survivors include her husband, Joel; her parents, Robert and Arlene Vanden Top of Rock Valley; a grandmother and her husband, Christine and Louis Kroon, of Rock Rapids; two brothers and a sister, Steven Vanden Top, and his wife, Kristine, of Enfield, Connecticut; Sharla, and her husband, Bill Thompson, of Harlan, Iowa; and Matthew Vanden Top, of Rock Valley; five nephews and nieces: Kayci and Sarah Vanden Top; and Kaylee, Britney, and Jacob Thompson.
Also left to cherish Tonya's memory are her husband's parents, Ken and Mary (Mulder) Leusink, of Hull; sisters, Kari, Tara, and Jodi; brother, Rick; and grandparents, Tena Leusink and Dick and Annetta Mulder.

Rock Valley native killed inaccident
Rock Valley native Tonya (Van Den Top) Leusink was killed in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday, Nov. 21 north of Le Mars. Leusink was killed in the collision on Highway 75 north of Le Mars which involved her car and a semitractor trailer. The accident occurred at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Nov. 21. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Leusink was driving north on Highway 75 in a Pontiac Fiero near Struble, IA.
A semi-tractor trailer driver by Gordon Struebel of Sioux City, was southbound on the highway at the same time. According to the report, the two vehciles impacted near the centerline of the highway. After impact, the car also caught fire as a result of the collision. The state patrol added that the cause of the accident was still under investigation. Leusink was married to Joel Leusink on August 4, and was the daughter of Robert and Arlene Van Den Top of Rock Valley. She was attending St. Luke's School of Nursing in Sioux City; as a second year nursing student. She had hopes to graduate in May as a registered nurse and wanted to specialize in caring for babies. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull and participated GEMS and choir.
