From the Sioux Center News of Jun 20, 2007 p.3
An Alton man was killed in a construction accident at the new WalMart Super Center in Sioux Center last Wednesday morning. Funeral services for David Herda of Alton took place on Saturday morning at the Alton Reformed Church with the Rev. David Daumer officiating.

According to the Sioux Center Police Department, Herda, 50, was killed while working at the construction site at the building site of the new Wal-Mart facility. Emergency personnel were called to the scene at 9 a.m. The Sioux Center EMT squad, the Sioux Center Fire and Rescue and the Sioux Center Police Department responded to the call.

Apparently, Herda was struck by a piece of equipment, according to officials. Herda was transported by the Sioux Center ambulance to the Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Because of the way construction accidents are investigated, police officials have released little information. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be handling the investigation into the death.

Herda and his wife, Brenda, lived in Alton. Herda is survived by his wife, two sons, Nicholas and Leah Herda of Alton and Andrew and Jessica Herda of Sioux Falls; and his parents, Joe and Ailene Herda of Hospers.
