Mary Hentges
Mrs. Mary F. Hentges, 97, of Alton passed away Monday, Jan. 11, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. Mary Frances was born July 26, 1884, in Dubuque County, the daughter of Phillip Wilwert and Magdelena Dysburg Wilwert. On Oct. 17, 1905, she married Charles W. Hentges, at Wheaton, Minn.

They farmed at Sheldon, later moving into town. In 1916 they moved to Alton. Mr. Hentges passed away May 3, 1963. Mrs. Hentges entered the Heritage House in 1979. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, of Alton, and its Rosary Society and Guild.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Malvina "Molly" Homan and Mrs. Henry (Pearl) Krogman, and one son, Carl, all of Alton; 10 grandchildren , 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and sister, Mrs. Anna Vortherms of Alton. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hentges was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Hentges, and eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. The Rev. Fr. David Hogan officiated. Interment followed at St. Mary's Cemetery, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
