From the Alton Democrat of Dec 23, 1899

At his home north of Alton on Monday night last occurred the, death of Johannes Vrymoet at the age of fiftyone years. Deceased was born in the Netherlands and came to this country in 1872. By hard work and economy he had amassed a small fortune which he was just ready to enjoy when bright's disease of the kidneys cut short his life, after eight months of suffering.

He leaves a wife, whose misfortune it has been for several years to be totally blind, and five
children all of whom are single and at home. Deceased was widely known and respected, and the funeral was one of the most largely attended ever held at the Alton Reformed church. Rev. Lepeltak conducted the services on Thursday afternoonj after which the thirty-five vehicles forming the cortege proceeded to the Alton cemetery where interment took place.

(In the obituary of his wife was noted that her name was Jennie Schouten born 20 May 1850 in Zutphen, Gelderland Netherlands. They were married 1875 in Sioux County. She died 15 Jul 1930. They had a daughter Dena who died at 22 years, and daughter Mrs. Jacob Mulder died 6 years prior to 1930. In 1930 William was living at Belvidere SD, Ben at Haywood CA, Mrs. Ben Lessen at Litchfield ND and Mrs. Bert Eggink at Chandler MN. In the 1900 census it was noted that Jennie was the mother of 8 children 5 were living at the time. They were William 22, Minnie 20, Ben 16, Josie 14, and Hattie 7. )
