Jacob De Leeuw, age 77, of Orange City, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Jacob was born Feb. 29, 1908 near Orange City, the son of Egbert De Leeuw and Elizabeth De Zeeuw De Leeuw. On Oct. 4, 1928 he married Henrietta Claerbout at Hull. They farmed near Hull for four years and then moved to a farm near Middleburg where they lived for 42 years. In 1974 they retired to Orange City.
Jake was a member of the First Reformed Church of Orange City. He was a former member of the Free Grace Reformed Church of Middleburg, where he served on the consistory and taught Sunday School classes for many years.
Survivors include his wife; son, Edgar De Leeuw of Ellsworth, Minn; daughter, Joan Van't Hof of Orange City; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, William De Leeuw of Sioux Center; and three sisters, Mrs. Wilbert (Anna) Dykstra of Sheldon; Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Haveman of Hull, and Mrs. Marvin (Angeline) Bjork of Monetta.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul, twin brother Gerrit, who died as a child, and son-in-law Lloyd Van't Hof.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 17 at the First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Cecil Martens officiating. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
Memorials are being directed to Words of Hope.
