Albert De Leeuw died at his home at Rock Valley, November 24, 1954 after a lingering illness.
Albert De Leeuw was born February 11, 1867, at Kampen, Netherlands, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Jennie Veltkamp. They came to America in 1903. Five children were born to this union, three of whom died in infancy in Holland, and one daughter Annie (Mrs. John Vanden Berg) died Oct. 9, 1940, at the age of 48. His wife preceded him in death March 30, 1920 at the age of 62.
He was united in marriage to Mrs. Jennie Van Maanen, Nov. 7, 1927 at Rock Valley. He is survived by the widow and one daughter Fannie (Mrs. Gerrit Bakker) of Rock Valley, eleven grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; also eight step-children: Mrs. John Van Sloten, Ed Van Maanen, Arie Van Maanen, Bert Van Maanen, Hattie (Mrs. Bert Jacobsma), Lucy (Mrs. Herman Zwak), Bertha, (Mrs. Jake Baartman), Annie (Mrs. Sam T. H. Kooima), 85 step grandchildren and two brothers, John, in The Netherlands, and Gerrit of Hull. Pall bearers were the grandsons: Ben Vanden Berg, Albert Vanden Berg, Gerrit Bakker, Bernard Bakker, John Bakker and Henry Bakker.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday in The Netherlands Reformed Church by Rev. J. Van Zweden. Interment was made in Valley View cemetery. Vander Ploeg funeral service was in charge of the services.
Relatives from a distance included Mr. & Mrs. Martin Luttikhuizen and family from Hudsonville, Mich. They returned to their home on Monday morning.
