Hawarden Independent, October 14, 1937

W. A. Drew of Clear Lake, traveling salesman for the McLaughlin Coffee Company, dropped dead in the Lilley Hotel in Hawarden shortly after midnight this morning. He was about the hotel lobby until after 12 o'clock with other guests. He complained of a pain in his chest and attributed it to indigestion and drank a couple of glasses of water in which he mixed baking soda. Shortly afterwards he went to the wash room. A minute or two later Ed Larson, night clerk at the hotel, heard him fall. He was able to get to him with difficulty because he had fallen in such a way that his body was wedged behind the door. Mr. Larson called a physician but life was extinct. His death was attributed to heart trouble from which he was known to be a sufferer.

Mr. Drew was about 50 years of age and was well known in Hawarden business circles as he has been coming to Hawarden regularly for the past 23 years. He is survived by his wife, one son and a daughter. The son arrived here this morning. The body is at the Ross Funeral Home.
