Helen (Mrs. Urban) Holles, 75, of Granville, died Saturday, December 29, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services were Wednesday, January 2, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville, with the Rev. Robert W. Gralapp officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Holles, daughter of August and Clara (Gukeisen) Kreber, was born February 16,1915, in rural Granville. She was raised in the Granville area and attended St. Joseph's Catholic School at Granville until the 10th grade.
She then transferred to St. Mary's Academy in Alton, where she graduated in 1933. She then attended Cherokee Junior College in Cherokee for two years and Westmar College in Le Mars.
She was assistant postmistress at Granville for several years before her marriage. She married Urban Holles June 20, 1938, in Granville. The couple farmed near Granville. In 1946, they purchased and moved to the farm where he was born, farming until retiring on the farm in 1975.
They moved into Granville in December, 1983. With the help of her family, she edited the Granville Shopper from June 1959 until March 1975.
Survivors include her husband; two sons Gerald of Minneapolis, MN, and Dennis of Dell Rapids, SD; two daughters, Jean (Mrs. David) Clark of Estherville, and Julie Holles of Minneapolis; five grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence and Francis, both of Granville, and Arnold of Alton; and three sisters, Irene (Mrs. Ed) Schlichte of Alton, Eleanore Britton of Madison, WI, and Viola (Mrs. William Nelson) Toel of Cherokee
