From the Hawarden Independent of Feb 11, 1932 p.7
Death Calls Albert Holtdorf Sr.
(The obituary was on the extreme left column of the paper and some of the left side was cut off. The words that could not be determined are designated by (?) Albert Holtdorf Sr. passed away Saturday afternoon at his home.
Mr. Holtdorf had been failing in health some time but his condition became worse a week ago Saturday. He seemed to rally from this attack until Friday night when his condition suddenly changed for the worse and early Saturday morning he lapsed into unconsciousness from which he did not rally.
Funeral services were held from the Holtdorf home at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon and at 2 o'clock at St. Paul's Lutheran church with Rev. H. Steger of Germantown and Rev. George Stein(?) of Hawarden in charge of the services. Burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery. It was one of the largest funerals held here for some time, friends from far and near came to pay their last respects to the departed. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.
Albert Frederick Karl Holtdorf was born July 14, 1863, at Kupferstown, (?) In his early infancy he was baptized in the Lutheran faith. He was firmed in St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran church at Forestville, Wis., on April 1878. When he was twenty-one years of age he came to Maurice, Iowa, and was employed on a farm. On Feb. 1890, the departed was united in marriage with Miss Emma Karnity at (? ssels), Door county, Wis. The young couple returned to Sioux county and made their home on a farm near Maurice., later moving southwest of Ireton.
1911 the family moved to Taopi, (Mn?) Since there was no Lutheran church at that place they returned to Ireton in the spring of 1913 in order to be nearer to their home church, St. Pauls, of which Mr. Holtdorf was a devoted and faithful member.
1920 the deceased retired from active farm life and moved with his family to town where they made their home until his death.
Mr. Holtdorf was a kind and loving man and father and his passing did temporarily brake a happy family circle. But through tears of parting the children of God look with confidence toward that better, the heavenly entry, where sorrow and death shall to more. He was esteemed by all, his words and ways made him popular with all.
Those who are left to mourn his departure are his devoted wife and helpmate, Mrs. Emma Holtdorf; six children - Clarence of LeMars, and Albert, (?jer), George, Ben and Myrtle of this place , One daughter, Lillian, preceded her father in death at the age of four four as did also another infant daughter-
He also leaves three grandchildren - Wesley, Arthur and Nita Holtdorf; one sister, Mrs. Amelia (?ike) four brothers, Herman and (?), of Algona, Wis., and August of (?)
Wis., and his youngest brother Julius.
St. Paul's congregation and host of friends are saddened when on this occasion they are reminded of death's destructive work,
