Mrs. Hendrina Pluim, pioneer Alton resident, passed on at her home here Saturday, Apr 23rd, at the age of 81 years. Her maiden name was Hendrina Tysen and she was born Dec 6th 1856 at Ede Gelderland the Netherlands. She was married to Arthur Pluim while in the Netherlands and twelve children were born to the union, of whom nine survive their mother. The family came to this country forty-five years ago and nine years later, in November of 1904, Mr. Pluim passed on. The children are John of Alton, William, Walter and Gysbert at home, Mrs. Wm. DeVos of Ireton; Mrs. R. DeKruif of Hospers, Mrs. P. Vander Naald of Hsopers, Peter of Hynes CA; Gerrit of Sioux Center. Mrs. Pluim is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. J. Roelfson of Alton and Mrs. Raadstad in the Netherlands. Two of the Pluim children died in infancy and a daughter at the age of sixteen.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home and First Ref. Church in charge of Rev. E. Van Engelenhoven. Many friends from this community and neighboring towns were present to pay their respect to this fine mother, whose life has been one of devotion to her family.
