Mr. LeRoy Rikkers, age 83, of Hull, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.
There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, February 7, at 10:30am, at the American Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Steven Bierly will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
LeRoy Stanley was born on May 13, 1928, in rural Hull, the son of Richard Martin and Geraldine (Koerselman) Rikkers. He was raised mostly at Hull.
On May 13, 1958, he married Dorothy Joan Dekker in rural Hull. They farmed south of Hull until 1977. In 1980, they moved into Hull. Dorothy passed away on December 5, 1999, in Hull.
Mr. Rikkers was a member of the American Reformed Church.
He enjoyed life and always had a smile. His big heart was ever ready to help others. He liked playing cards and visiting with friends and neighbors. In spite of being physically handicapped all his life, LeRoy never complained. He was a loving father, grandfather, and friend to many.
Survivors include a son, Richard Rikkers, of Sioux Center; two daughters-in-law, Debra Rikkers, of Sioux Center, and Susan Rikkers, of Ellsworth, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Rachel, and her husband, Nick Siebrecht; Elizabeth Rikkers, Luke Rikkers, and Brock Rikkers; three step-granddaughters, Ashley Spurlin, Amy Berke, and Andrea Hauge; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Darwin Rikkers.
