Cornelius Venema was born in The Netherlands, April 8, 1892 and came to America in 1914. In October, 1916, he married Anna Westerman. To this union 7 children were born, John of Sheldon; Harriet (Mrs. Roy De Jong) of Hospers; Henry of Sarnia, Ontario; Richard & Alvin of Calvin Seminary; Theresa (Mrs. Herbert Peters) of Hospers; and Melvina (Mrs. Don Vander Linde) of Grand Rapids, MI. Mrs. Anna Venema died July 1, 1931. In 1935 he was married to Mrs. Arta Kuipers, who died April 19, 1943. He married Johanna Waanders, April 9, 1947, who now survives. In addition to his 7 children, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Jacob Rosema of Sheldon, 4 brothers and 2 sisters in The Netherlands. Mr. Venema spent his entire life in the Hospers community.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 15, at 1:30 at the home and 2:00 at the Christian Reformed Church, Hospers, with Rev. D. D. Bonnema officiating. Burial was in the Hospers Cemetery under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Service of Hospers.

The pall bearers were: Doris Waanders, John Waanders, Walter Swets, Wm. Poppema, Harold Westerman, and Albert Sprik.
