Sioux Center News, May 26, 1998

Albert Van Riessen, 86, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, May 19, at the Sioux Center Community Health Center.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Robert Drenten officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Van Riesen was born May 11, 1912 in The Netherlands, the son of Evert and Hendrike (Enkhoorn) Van Riesen. He came to the United States with his family as an infant. He attended school to the eighth grade near Steen, Minnesota. He married Dena Addink, November 13, 1935, in Sioux Center. The couple farmed around the Sioux Center and Hills, Minnesota, areas for 30 years. Then they moved into Sioux Center. He was employed as a school bus driver for Sioux Center Schools.

He was a past member of Hills Christian Reformed Church and Bethel Christian Reformed Church, where he was a deacon for both churches. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; a sister, Christina Flier of Rock Rapids; a sister-in-law, Margaret Van Riesen of Sanborn; two half-brothers, Alfred and Jake Van Hattern, both of Doon; two half-sisters, Minnie Brooks of Annex, Missouri, and Wesslena Van Berkum of Rock Valley; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wessel; a half-sister, Nellie; four brothers-in-law, Joe, John, Foster and Wally.
