Service: May 30, 2007, Trinity Christian Reformed Church Rock Valley, Iowa,
Theresa Vander Woude, 95, died Saturday, May 26, 2007 at Valley Manor, Rock Valley.
Burial will be 1 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery, Doon, IA..
Our gracious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother & friend departed this life on May 26, 2007, two weeks after her 95th birthday. She was born in Doon, IA, May 7, 1912. She was the
oldest of 5 children. On April 14, 1937, she married Henry Vander Woude in Lynden, WA where she had gone to find work. Clarence was born there in 1938. They came back to Doon the next year in a runabout Ford with the baby bed tied to the back and a wash boiler filled with food on the side-step. Marlene was born in 1943. Together with their family they started Van's Oil Co. in Doon selling gas at 16 cents/gallon, hand pumped in the early years. Theresa was a strong hard working mother & wife. She had many talents, one of which was her beautiful flower garden. What ever she did, she did very well. Their life had happiness in their travels and spending time at Okoboji, and sadness at losing Clem at 52 years. Henry died after 59 years of marriage. Theresa found a new church home in Rock Valley at Trinity Christian Reformed Church. She was blessed by kind & loving fellowship there which gave her happiness. Weekly visits around the tea pot & talks of gardening with her new friends was such a blessing to her. She attended regularly every Sunday she could and now is singing with the chorus on high.
Theresa is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Monte) Van Meeteren of Canton, SD; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Vander Woude of Spirit Lake, IA; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Marion (Alida) Van Engen of Rock Valley; sisters: Gladys Vande Voorn of Colton, SD,
Josephine Feucht of Canton; and her Church Family at Trinity for blessing her last years with so much love and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; son, Clem Vander Woude; brother,
John Van Engen; sister, Sade Van Engen.
