Sioux Center News, December 15, 1998

Anna Van Steenwyk, 70, of Artesia, CA, and formerly of Orange City, died on Saturday, December 5, at Downey Community Hospital in Downey, CA.

Services were Thursday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City, with the Rev. Timothy Ouwinga of First Christian Reformed Church officiating. Private burial was at West Lawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Van Steenwyk was born on March 14, 1928, in Orange City, the daughter of Jacob and Agnes (De Vries) Huizenga. She was raised in the Orange City area.

She married John Van Steenwyk and in 1965 they moved to California. He died on January 21, 1991, in Santa Ana, CA.

She was employed as a nurse's aide in various hospitals. She had been a resident of Artesia Christian Retirement Home for seven years.

She was a member of Rosewood Christian Reformed Church in Bellflower, CA, and a former member of First Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra Heinsma of Stanton, CA, and Cheryl Van Steenwyk of Hinsdale, IL; a son and his wife, Scott & Cheryl of Rossmore, CA; three grandchildren, Kent and Todd Heinsma and Lauren Van Steenwyk; two brothers and their wives, Otto & Marge Huizenga of Denver, CO; and George & Jean Huizenga of Orange City; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Joan & Gerrit Spronk of Edgerton, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four children, Darrel, Dennis and stillborn twins; and a brother, Bernard Huizenga.

Memorials may be directed to Heritage House in Orange City.
