Rose De Weerd, 92, of Sioux Center died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at the Sioux Center
Community Nursing Facility. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of First Reformed Church with the Rev. Harold Lenters and the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating.
Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Rose (De Jager) De Weerd was born to Bernard and Jannet (Nyhof) De Jager on Oct. 21, 1912, near Maurice, Iowa. Rose attended country school near Maurice and as a young woman assisted her siblings on the family farm. She began working for the Gerrit De Weerd family by maintaining the home and providing child care after Mrs. De Weerd's death. During her employment she met Albert De Weerd. Rose and Albert were later united in married Sept. 2, 1935, by the Rev. Brunsting in Sioux Center Following their marriage, Rose and Albert began farming between Maurice and Sioux Center in 1953, they settled on a farm they purchased near Alvord, Iowa. Albert preceded Rose in death on Sept. 7, 1973.
After Albert's death. Rose moved to Sioux Center She became a resident of the Sioux Center Nursing Facility in October of 2003. Previously Rose was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church of Lester, Iowa, and became a member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center in 1973. She loved to cook and bake. She enjoyed sharing her fresh-baked cherry pies, bread and cakes with family and friends. Rose is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law: Gilbert and Mildred De Weerd of Ireton; Wayne and Delma De Weerd of Sioux Center and Rodney and Joanne De Weerd of Sioux Center along with her 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband.Rose was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Henry and Rhodus DeJager; eight sisters: Anna Drost, Gertie Van Duyn, Hattie Schreur, Jennie De Jong, Rena Faber, Susie Smit, Henreittta Vande Kieft and Johanna Veenstra.
