MILDRED E. VER STEEG DE BOER

Mildred Ver Steeg De Boer, 85, of Katy, Tex., formerly of Orange City, Sioux Center and George, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at a hospital in Katy.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Reformed Church Chapel in Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiated. Burial followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. A funeral service was also held on Friday, Nov. 3 at the First Reformed Church in Firth, Neb.

Mildred Ella was born Feb. 2, 1915, at Lakeview, S.D., the daughter of William and Johanna (Bordewyk) Vanden Bos. She was raised in South Dakota and the Orange City area. She then graduated from Hope College in Holland, Mich. and served as a teacher in Michigan and Iowa.

On Aug. 21, 1939, she married the Rev. Benjamin Ver Steeg in Orange City. They served the Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center, the Hope Reformed Church in rural George and Reformed churches in Des Moines, Chancellor, S.D. and Artesia, Calif. The Rev. Ver Steeg died Nov. 1, 1973, in Artesia.

Later Mildred married Roy De Boer in Denver, Colo. They made their home in Firth. In the spring of 1998, Mrs. De Boer moved to Katy. She was a member of the Firth Reformed Church.

Mildred was an active partner with her first husband as they pastored churches. She was a gifted speaker and led many meetings of womens organizations over the years.

Survivors include her husband, Roy of Firth; a son and his wife, David and Joan Ver Steeg of Katy; three stepsons and their wives, Robert and Virginia De Boer of Firth, Bruce and Susan De Boer of Denver and Gary and Kathy De Boer of Nelson, Neb.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
