Sioux Center News, May 26, 1976

Jacob Van Steenwyk, Sioux Center, born June 12, 1897, 78, died May 23, 1976 after a short illness.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Vander Ploeg Chapel in Sioux Center. Officiating will be Rev. Wesley Kiel of Central Reformed Church with burial in the Sioux Center Memory Gardens cemetery.

Survivors include his wife Ida (Van Ek) married Feb.2, 1922; three children, Elma (Wesley C. Dykstra) of Alma, Mich.; Normand G. of Sioux Center, and Mary (Mrs. Kenneth Kwikkel) of Sioux Center. Brothers and sisters include: A. W. Van Steenwyk of Yucaipa, CA; Marion Van Steenwyk, San Marino, CA; Frances (Mrs. David Schuetz) of Mt. Home, Ark: Cedric Van Steenwyk of Okoboji, and Arnold W. Van Steenwyk of Arcadia, CA.

Jacob Van Steenwyk a long time employee of the U. S. Post Office, began delivering the mail in 1921 until his retirement in 1965. He was also active as a member of the Sioux Center American Legion and also a past post commander.
