Herbert Ver Mulm, 71, of Hudson, S.D., died suddenly Saturday, March 7, at his home in Hudson. Services were held Tuesday, March 10, in the First Reformed Church at Rock Valley. The Rev. Gordon Bloemendaal officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton under the direction of Van De More Funeral Home of Hudson.

Mr. Ver Mulm was born April 25, 1909 in Sioux County. He married Ann Mantel December 1, 1937, at Rock Valley. They farmed in Sioux County until 1946 when they moved to Hudson and operated a feed mill. He served as chief of police for 9 years and retired in 1980.

Survivors include the widow; four sons, William and Harley, both of Hudson, Darwin of Leavenworth, Kansas, Russel of Sioux Falls; three daughters, Mrs. Marion (Marcene) Ver Berg of Rock Valley, Mrs. Walter (Carol) Baker of Brandon, S.D., and Pam of Hudson; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Robert and Jake; three sisters, Mrs. Henry Ver Stuys of Flandreau, S.D., Mrs. Nellie Middle of Rock Valley, Mrs. Johanna Gerritson of Rock Valley.
