Jake Ver Mulm, age 83, died Tuesday, October 29, 2002, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. [Memorial services were held] November 1, 2002, at the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley with the Rev. Mike Van Hamersveld as officiant.

Jake was born February 16, 1919, at Rock Valley, son of William and Tillie (Wassenaar) Ver Mulm. He married Dorothy Van Roekel on February 19, 1941, at Edgerton, MN. Jake served in the U.S. Army during WWII from July 17, 1942, to December 29, 1945. Jake and Dorothy lived at Rock Valley where Jake was in partnership with his brother Bill in the automotive repair business. In 1955, Jake sold his business and moved southwest of Rock Valley where he and Dorothy farmed until retirement in 1978 when they moved to Rock Valley.

Surviving relatives include his wife Dorothy; three sons and their wives: Lee and Hazel of Cedar Falls, IA, Roger and Lynne of Stockton, CA, Dennis and Martha of Urbandale, IA; four grandchildren: Lisa Dreyer, Laura DeBoer, Scott Ver Mulm, and Mollie Ver Mulm; six great-grandchildren.

Jake was preceded in death by five brothers: Case, Bob, Frank, Bill, and Herb; infant brother, Robert; three sisters: Johanna Gerritsen, Nellie Middle, and Jennie Ver Sluys.

Memorials may be directed to the Sioux County Hospice.
