John C. Boersma
John C. Boersma, 94, of Sioux Center died Friday, November 12, 1999 at the Community Health Center in Sioux Center.
Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Covenant Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. Daniel De Groot officiating. Burial was at Richland Cemetery, Inwood.
Boersma was born to Cornelius and Pietje (Zylstra) Boersma on December 3, 1904, in
(Friesland) The Netherlands. His family came to the United States in 1911. He attended Paterson, New Jersey, Christian School. He married Tracy Vermeulen on January 22, 1931, in Volga, South Dakota. They lived for six years in Rock Rapids before moving to Perkasie, Pennsylvania. They moved back to Iowa to farm by Inwood. He was a janitor for Sioux Falls School for the Deaf from 1958 to 1965. They retired to Sioux Center in 1976. They were one of the first couples to live in the New Homestead.
He was a member of Covenant Christian Reformed Church, serving as elder, deacon and
leader of Bible study groups.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years; two sons, Marion and Angie Boersma of Gresham, Oregon, and Ed and Judi of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two daughters, Cornelia De Vries of Spearfish, South Dakota, and Bertha Boersma of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Albert Boersma of Sioux Center. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
