FINAL CALL FOR MORE WELL KNOWN EARLY SETTLERS....

Last Saturday evening [June 24], as the sun had just disappeared behind the horizon, William Ver Mulm, Sr. was called into the presence of his Maker. The end came very calmly as his wife, sons and daughters watched at his bedside. He had been ill with a heart ailment for some months but it was not until last Thursday afternoon that a turn for the worse set in and it became evident that his time was very short.

Mr. Ver Mulm was born at Parnisse, in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands on October 11, 1872, and had therefore reached the age of 71 years, 8 months and 13 days. When he reached the age of 19 years he came to the United States, coming directly to Rock Valley, arriving here in the spring of 1891.

On November 5, 1898, he was united in marriage at Orange City to Miss Tillie Wassenaar who, with six sons and three daughters, mourns the passing of a loving husband and father whose memory will ever be cherished by them.

The children who survive are Jennie, Mrs. Henry Ver Sluis, Ruthton, Minn.; Cornelius, Frank, Nellie, Mrs. Louis Middle; Robert, Herbert, William, Jr., Johanna, Mrs. Albert Gerritsen; and Jake, serving his country in India. Robert lives at Maurice, all the rest here at Rock Valley. One child, Robert, died at the age of 6 years, preceding his father in death in 1906. There are also 26 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at 2:00 o'clock at the First Reformed church of which he was an active member. Pallbearers were Frank De Graaf, C. A. Walhof, C. Rozeboom, H. Reit, K. Keizer and A. Gerritsen, Sr. Interment was at the Valley View cemetery.
