Dies in Field Mishap

William Ver Mulm, 63, died late Wednesday afternoon [November 7] in an accident while picking corn in the field.

Ver Mulm, who lived six miles west and two miles north of Rock Valley, was operating a farm tractor at the time and apparently suffered a heart attack, causing the machine to go out of control and careen in a nearby ravine, where it burst into flames. John Vanden Bosch, who was working with Ver Mulm at the time of the accident, called the Rock Valley Rescue Unit but Ver Mulm was dead at the scene.

Funeral services for Ver Mulm were held Saturday at 1:30 PM in the Calvin Christian Church with the Rev. John Engbers officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery under the direction of Porter Funeral Home.

Mr. Ver Mulm was born in Rock Valley on October 7, 1910. He married Winnie Van Der Vliet December 29, 1931, in Canton, South Dakota. He had farmed in the Rock Valley area his entire life.

Survivors include the widow; brothers Robert of Alton, Herbert of Hudson, South Dakota, and sisters, Mrs. Henry Ver Sluys of Flandreau, South Dakota, and Mrs. Albert Gerritson and Mrs. Louise Middle, both of Rock Valley.
