DEATH OF GERRIT VER WEY

Gerrit Ver Wey died at his home in Rock Valley early Sunday morning [August 10] following an illness of about three weeks. About three weeks before his death while he was working around the house he scratched one of his hands. Infection set in and soon his arm was swollen and the poison spread through his system. He suffered intense pain during his sickness which he bore patiently.

Mr. Ver Wey was a man who was highly thought of and respected by all who knew him. He was born in the Netherlands, Dec. 3, 1842 and had attained the advanced age of 81 years 8 months and seven days. His early life was spent in his native land where he grew to manhood. He came with his family to this country thirty-three years ago, coming directly to Rock Valley and he resided there continuously until death claimed him.

Besides other relatives, he leaves one son, Tom Ver Wey, with whom he made his home, and two sisters, one in the old country, and one, Mrs. Ver Meulen, of Rock Valley, and one brother, J. Ver Wey, of Rock Valley.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the First Reformed church of Rock Valley, conducted by Rev. Colenbrander and Rev. Bergman, and the remains were taken to Valley View Cemetery.
