ROBERT W. VIS

Robert Vis, age 80, of Orange City died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997 at the Orange City Hospital. A funeral service was held on Friday, Jan. 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Harlan Van Oort officiated. Private burial followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Robert Willis was born March 31, 1916 in Orange City, the son of Gerrit J. and Gertrude (Rozeboom) Vis. He graduated from the Rock Valley High School in 1934 and attended Iowa State University.

In June of 1942 he married Marcia Agatha Boone. He served in the 34th Division of the Signal Corps in Africa and Italy during World War II. "Bob" worked as a designer and seller of Livestock Automation Systems. Mr. Vis was a member of the American Reformed Church in Orange City since 1944.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Dr. Bonnie Baum of Colfax; a son, Robert Boone Vis of Nederland, Colo.; two grandchildren, Dr. Clinton Korver of Redwood Shores, Calif. and his fiance, Miriam Rivera; and Juliana Korver Bower and her husband Randall of Slater; a half-sister, Margaret Bastemeyer Hubers and her husband Dale of Orange City; and a half-brother, Norman Bastemeyer and his wife Carol of Des Moines.
