John Aalders, Rural Carrier 35 Years, Dies At Alton John J. Aalders. rural mail carrier at Alton for 35 years, died at the hospital in Orange City Saturday, Dec. 24th, after a brief illness. For several weeks he had not been in good health, but continued to make his route until the Thursday morning preceding his passing.
Born at Boyden, Aug. -2th, 1892, he was 63 years, 4 months and 12 days old at the time of his death. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. John Aalders, who moved to Alton when John was a small boy, settling on a farm south of town.
He attended school in Alton and served with an Engineering Division in France during World War I. After the war he secured a position as rural carrier at Alton and held that position until his death.
Survivors are his wife, Grace, and two sons, Herman of Des Moines, Iowa and Ben of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 3 grandchildren;
four sisters and one brother, namely Mrs. John Schultz of Kiron, Iowa; Mrs. Katie De Vries, Mrs. Annie Aalders, Mrs. Minnie Duistermars and Andrew Aalders, all living in California.
Funeral services were held at the Allen Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, In charge of Charles J. Macheers of Des Moines, a representative of Jehovah's Witnesses. Music was provided by Mrs. Rachel Babcock and Mrs. C. J. Macheers, both of Des Moines.
Pallbeairers were 3 of the sons and their families were here for the rites, also many relatives and friends and members of the J. W. sect from other towns.
Mr. and Mrs. Aalders were devoted members of this sect, and last summer journeyed to Europe to attend an international convention—a tour greatly enjoyed by both.
