August 15, 1923 - January 1, 2012
Mr. Darrell Bentz, age 88, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.

There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, January 4, at 1:30pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. David Daumer will officiate. Interment will follow at the Remsen Community Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be the hour before the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Darrell was born on August 15, 1923, at Remsen, the son of Nickolas and Johanna (Milfs) Bentz. He was raised at Remsen, where he graduated from the public high school.

During World War II, he served in the United States Army from February of 1943 to September of 1945.

In 1942, he married Eugenia "Jean" Ransom. They later divorced, and she has passed away.

Mr. Bentz made his home in several Iowa cities, where he pursued various occupations. In 1969, he moved to Orange City, where he became superintendent of the city water and sewage departments. He retired in 1992.

He enjoyed traveling, nature, and fishing.

Darrell was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Remsen and the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post in Orange City.

Survivors include his son and his wife, Daryle and Kay Bentz, of Richmond Hill, Georgia; four grandchildren, Daryle Bentz, Jr., and his wife, LeReba, of Bronson, Florida; Deisere, and her husband, Matt Moore, of Bronson, Iowa; Dana Johnson, of Palatka, Florida; and Dustin Bentz, of Charleston, South Carolina; and eight great-grandchildren, Steven and Lillian Bentz; Aaron and Lindsey Moore; Courtney, Kayla, and Alexandria Johnson; and Anelise Bentz.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Darylene Kay Hanson; and three brothers, Kenneth, Roy, and William Bentz.
