Obituary: Canton, SD: Bert Baker, 91, of Canton, formerly of Rock Valley, died Friday January 6, 2012 at Sanford Canton-Inwood Medical Center. Funeral Service will be 2 pm Tuesday at Netherlands Reformed Congregation, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Rev. P. L. Bazen officiating. Visitation Monday with family present 6:30-8 pm at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Bert was born June 28, 1920 at NW of Alvord, Iowa, son of Walter and Jennie (Van Den Berg) Baker. Bert married Etta Emma Hulstein on September 28, 1945 at Rock Rapids, Iowa. Together they farmed south of Rock Valley until moving west of Canton. They retired from farming and moved to Rock Valley in April of 1982. Bert helped John Harmelink and the Rock Valley Hay Sale Company. Etta died October 26, 2007. Bert later moved to Hiawatha Heights Assisted Living near Canton.

Survivors include sons, Walter (Carol) Baker, Conrad (Linda) Baker all of Canton, Gene Baker of Centerville, SD; daughter, Jane Kienast of Centerville, SD; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Gerrit (Joanne) Baker of Doon, IA; sister-in-law, Anna Marie Baker of Rock Valley.
