Death Claims Mrs. Albertina Votho

Mrs. Albertina Vlotho was taken suddenly ill at her home, 3 1/2 miles southeast of Ireton, last Thursday evening and her condition was critical. She suffered a stroke and passed away the following day [January 26] without regaining consciousness. Not only were her near relatives shocked but the whole community was saddened as word spread of her passing. She seemed in her usual health before she suffered the stroke and was about her household duties as usual.

Albertina Wilhelmina Storck, daughter of Gerhard and Wilhelmina Marquard Storck, was born April 9, 1871, at Van Meter, Iowa. In 1897 she was united in marriage with Edward Kading. Five children were born to this union, all of whom mourn the death of mother. They are Margarite, Edna, Martin, Paul and Edward. Her husband passed away in August, 1904. On September 13, 1914, she was united in marriage with Henry Vloto[Vlotho] Sr., who preceded her in death in January, 1924 [actually, January 1928; see his obit, Hawarden Independent, Jan. 26, 1928]. She had reached the age of 68 years, 9 months and 15 days.

Those who mourn her death are her five children, Mrs. Louise Heidbrink of Le Mars; Mrs. Edna Vander Hamm and Martin, Paul and Edward Kading of Ireton; five step-children, Henry Vlotho, Mrs. Hugo Wellnitz and Mrs. R. H. Eilts of Ireton; Gustave Vlotho of LeMars and Verona Vlotho of Long Beach, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great grandchildren. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Ida Meyers of De Soto, Iowa, and Mrs. Catherine Witchonk of Milwaukee, Wis., and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Vlotho was highly regarded by all who knew her. Her fine Christian attainments, her love for her children and grandchildren, her considerate ways and helpful attitudes to neighbors and friends, gained her fast friends who grieve at her sudden passing.

Funeral services were held from the home at 1:30 Monday afternoon and from St. John's Lutheran church at 2 o'clock with Rev. Siegbert Becker officiating. The funeral was largely attended and the floral tokens were many and beautiful. Burial was made in St. John's cemetery. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Miss Feranda Storck of Winterset, Iowa; Mrs. Marion Brocker, Van Meter; Clifford Lienemann, Van Meter; Fred Meyers, Dallas Center; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Heidbrink and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Vlotho, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kehrberg, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Hodgson, Mr. and Mrs. Will Hodgson, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Heimgartner, Lydia and Alvin Long, Mr. and Mrs. Art Greenwald and Mr. and Mrs. Sutmeyer of Le Mars, and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Anderson of Hinton.
